A Bible verse for the weary

Bible Verses for When You Feel Weary: One a Day

Some tired goes away with a good night of sleep. Weary is the other kind. It is the tired that is still there in the morning, the kind that comes from carrying people, bills, work and worry for a long time without setting any of it down.

If that is where you are today, this page is for you. It gives you one verse a day. One is enough.

What does weary mean in the Bible?

In the Bible, weary means worn down in body and in spirit. It is used for people who have worked hard, waited long, or carried a burden that was too heavy for one person.

The Bible never treats weariness as a failure of faith. It treats it as a reason to come closer. Almost every verse about being weary is followed by a promise of rest, strength or help.

What weary looks like now

Weary does not always look like falling apart. Most of the time it looks like a woman who is still showing up.

  • It looks like sitting in the car in the driveway for ten more minutes before you go inside.
  • It looks like being the one everyone calls, and not knowing who you would call.
  • It looks like lying awake at three in the morning, running numbers in your head.
  • It looks like caring for a parent and a grown child in the same week, and smiling through both.
  • It looks like saying “I'm fine” because explaining would take energy you do not have.

If you saw yourself in one of those, nothing is wrong with you. You have been carrying a lot for a long time.

I know this one myself. I wrote about the season when I was exhausted in a way sleep was not going to help, and the two words that got me moving again. Read my story.

A short prayer for the weary

A short prayer for the weary

Lord, I am tired in a way that sleep has not fixed. I bring you what I have been carrying alone. Renew my strength while I wait on you, and lead me beside still waters today. Amen.

One small thing to do today

Write today's verse where you will see it, on a card by the sink or as the wallpaper on your phone. Then name one thing you can hand over today, and leave it there.
