Bible Verses About Gratitude: One a Day
Some days gratitude comes easily. The house is quiet, the coffee is hot, and you can see how much you have been given.
If your heart is full today, this page is for you. It gives you one verse a day to say thank you with.
Today's verse for a grateful heart
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
One verse shows here each day. Come back tomorrow for the next one.
What does the Bible say about gratitude?
The Bible treats thanksgiving as something you do, not only something you feel. Give thanks, enter with thanksgiving, forget not his benefits.
It also places thanks inside hard days. In every thing give thanks does not mean every thing is good. It means there is something to thank God for in it.
What gratitude looks like now
Gratitude does not always look like a big moment. Most of the time it looks like noticing.
- It looks like a grandchild asleep on your shoulder.
- It looks like a clear scan and a long breath out in the parking lot.
- It looks like a friend who calls just to check on you.
- It looks like a kitchen table that has held forty years of meals.
- It looks like waking up and realizing the thing you dreaded last year is behind you.
If you saw your own life in one of those, say thank you out loud. It counts.
Every week one woman shares the verse that carried her through. Read the stories.
A short prayer of thanks
Lord, you are good, and your mercy has carried me. Thank you for this day and for the people in it. Help me notice what you have given, and not forget. Amen.
One small thing to do today
Write today's verse where you will see it. Then write down three things you are thankful for, and tell one person why you are thankful for them.
What is a good Bible verse about being thankful?
Psalm 107:1 is one of the best known: “O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”
What does in every thing give thanks mean?
It comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:18. It does not say every thing is good. It says thanks can be given in every thing, including hard days.
How can I be more grateful?
Psalm 103:2 says to “forget not all his benefits.” Gratitude grows when you remember on purpose, so write a few down each day.
